Tejo, Portugal
100% Fernão Pires
A naturally sparkling white from Portugal’s Tejo region — made as a true Pétillant Naturel and bottled unfiltered with its natural lees intact.
Produced at Quinta da Ribeirinha, this Pet Nat* begins in hillside vineyards influenced by both inland warmth and cooling Atlantic air. The combination allows Fernão Pires to retain freshness and aromatic lift while developing texture and ripeness.
The grapes were harvested by hand in early August specifically for sparkling wine production — capturing vibrant acidity and lower alcohol potential. After direct pressing, the must was clarified by flotation and fermented slowly with indigenous yeasts at cool temperatures.
Before fermentation finished, the wine was bottled without filtration, allowing the remaining sugars to complete fermentation naturally in bottle. The result is a living sparkling wine with fine bubbles, natural sediment, and layered texture from its lees.
This is sparkling wine made through timing, patience, and fermentation itself — not manipulation.
* Wine Term: Pet Nat (Pétillant Naturel)
A naturally sparkling wine bottled before primary fermentation is complete. The remaining sugars finish fermenting in bottle, creating carbonation naturally without added yeast or sugar. Often bottled unfiltered, leaving fine lees and a more textured, raw expression.
Only about 3,000 bottles were made.
Why Try It?
Because Fernão Pires rarely appears like this.
Instead of becoming broad or overly aromatic, it was picked early and transformed into something sharper, fresher, and more mineral-driven.
Cloudy pale citrus in the glass, with aromas of white plum, peach, lime zest, and delicate floral notes. The mousse is soft and enveloping, while the lees bring texture and persistence without heaviness.
Fresh, energetic, and quietly complex — this is Pet Nat focused on precision rather than trendiness.

A Short Note on Fernão Pires
Fernão Pires is one of Portugal’s oldest and most widely planted white grapes, traditionally known for aromatic, generous wines. But when harvested early and used for sparkling production, the grape shifts character entirely — becoming more citrus-driven, saline, and tension-filled while still retaining its expressive personality.
A Short Note on Tejo
Tejo, just northeast of Lisbon, has historically been associated with warmer-climate wines. But vineyards like Quinta da Ribeirinha show a different side of the region — where elevation, limestone-clay soils, and cooler nighttime temperatures preserve freshness and definition.
Translation: more precision, more energy, less weight.
