Bio-Weingut Schwarz is a family-run estate in Schrattenberg, in the eastern part of Austria’s Weinviertel. The vineyards are certified organic, with the family placing its emphasis on careful work in the vineyard—from pruning and canopy management to controlling yields and choosing the proper harvest time.

In the cellar, modern equipment is combined with traditional winemaking methods to preserve the character and quality of the harvested grapes. The estate produces red, white, rosé, sparkling and dessert wines, with Grüner Veltliner representing the classic white-wine identity of the region.

Why We Selected It

We wanted a Grüner Veltliner that clearly expresses what makes Austria’s signature white grape different: freshness, gentle texture, a subtle peppery edge and enough savory character to make the wine interesting without making it difficult.

At 12% alcohol, this is the crisp, everyday side of Grüner Veltliner—not a heavy reserve wine or an exaggerated aromatic white. It comes from a certified organic family winery and gives us a clean, direct expression of the grape and its Austrian origin.

We guarantee the quality. You discover the wine.

Why Try It?

Because Grüner Veltliner offers an alternative to the usual Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio and Chardonnay choices.

It is fresh without relying entirely on citrus, aromatic without becoming perfumed and light without feeling empty. Its characteristic combination of crispness, gentle spice and savory structure makes it one of the most versatile white wines at the table.

Why Buy It?

Because this is the kind of white wine that is easy to keep in the refrigerator and surprisingly easy to use.

It works before dinner, with vegetables, with seafood, with fried foods and with many Asian dishes. The moderate 12% alcohol and light-to-medium body keep it refreshing, while its savory character gives it enough substance to continue through the meal.

It is also a direct introduction to Austria’s most important white grape from a certified organic Austrian estate.

Wine Term: Grüner Veltliner

Grüner Veltliner—often written Gruener Veltliner when the umlaut is unavailable—is Austria’s most important white grape variety.

It can produce everything from light, crisp everyday wines to concentrated, age-worthy vineyard expressions. In its classic youthful style, Grüner Veltliner is known for freshness, gentle texture, savory qualities and a distinctive peppery or spicy note.

Rather than tasting like a version of another familiar grape, Grüner Veltliner has its own clearly Austrian identity.

Cellar, Serving & Pairing

This wine is made to be enjoyed for its freshness and energy rather than for extended aging. Drink now or over the next one to two years.

Store the bottle in a cool, dark place. Once opened, refrigerate it and enjoy within two days.

❄️Serve well chilled, but not ice-cold. Allowing the wine to warm slightly in the glass will reveal more of its texture, gentle spice and savory character.
