Discover Real Wine
A free one-hour introduction to the world of wine.
If you’ve ever wondered why some people become fascinated by wine—not because of alcohol, but because of history, geography, farming, craftsmanship, and flavor—you’re in the right place.
No prior knowledge is required. There is no test, no pressure to buy, and no alcoholic tasting. We use conversation, maps, bottles, glasses, water, fruit juice, and other visual examples to make the ideas behind wine easy to understand.
Six conversations. Ten minutes each.
1. Why Wine?
Why has fermented grape juice fascinated people for thousands of years?
We begin with what makes wine different from most other beverages: its connection to farming, seasons, human history, culture, celebration, and the places where grapes are grown.
2. How to Taste
You do not need an extraordinary palate to understand wine.
We explore how sight, aroma, taste, texture, acidity, sweetness, and finish work together—and how paying attention can make any beverage more interesting.
3. Where Wine’s Flavors Come From
There are no cherries in a wine that smells like cherries.
Learn how grapes, fermentation, climate, soil, aging, and winemaking can create aromas and flavors that remind us of fruit, flowers, herbs, spices, earth, and much more.
4. Wine Is Geography
Wine begins somewhere.
We travel briefly through the world’s wine countries and explain how climate, landscape, grape varieties, local traditions, and generations of experience give wines their identities.
5. How to Begin Exploring Wine
Labels, grapes, regions, vintages, bottles, and prices can make wine seem more complicated than it needs to be.
We show you where to begin, what questions to ask, how wine glasses help, and how to explore without chasing scores, prestige, or expensive bottles.
6. Wine at the Table—and in Life
Wine was never intended simply as a way to consume alcohol.
We discuss moderation, sharing, conversation, and pairing wine with the foods people actually eat—from pizza and tacos to sushi, burgers, ramen, vegetables, and dessert.
Who is this for?
The talk is especially designed for people who:
- Have never known where to begin with wine.
- Feel intimidated walking into a wine shop.
- Are curious about flavor, farming, travel, food, or culture.
- Already enjoy coffee, tea, food, beer, sake, or other products of place and process.
- Want to understand wine without being told what they are supposed to like.
Experienced wine drinkers are welcome too. Wine is not something you finish learning. It is something you keep discovering.
